A servant was born and called to prepared he way. John her here in Luke 3:16 paints us yet another picture of what it means to o be a servant of Christ. Remember yesterday that we should heed the ministry of John and make it a statement for our lives as Christians. Well today i think John says a beautiful statement in this verse and i want us to really just take a time of prayer over it today and let it settle in your hearts. I was praying this exact verse in my prayer time this morning without knowing That we would be reading it today. What an amazing way God works.
16” John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latched of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.” We know that from the Great commission that we are called in Matthew 28:18-20 to preach and teach to the whole world. That we are called to share in the same ministry as John is, but in a different way. John was preparing the way prior to resurrection and we have the ministry of preparing the way for the second coming of our Lord and Savior. In my eyes we have it easier but yet harder. Easier for we have so much evidence of what has taken place that John did not have, also we don’t have the persecution that he would be suffering. Harder because truth don’t mean the same thing today as it did then. Today people look at truth as whatever they believe to be true is truth. So if you say you don’t believe in Christ then that’s truth to you. Where i believe in Christ that’s truth to me. That’s a misinterpretation of truth. I believe in God not because it what i believe and the Bible says so but because God has revealed him self to me.
Sorry little off topic but really think about what people think truth is today and why. But what i really want to hit and for us to see is that John like us are called to prepare the way. We have such an important mission but look at his heart while serving Christ. He knows the importance of it and now he is encounter Christ and listen to His words. ” the Latched of whose shoes i am not worthy to unloose”. What John is saying here is that he is unworthy to do the task of the least of the least of slaves was responsible for. How are we in this area of our lives. Are we humbled before the king or is our pride to much to become a true servant. That’s all i want to say. How is it that you stand with Christ. Is he just a friend or is a a friend that deserves reverence. What is God to you and how do you portray him to the world? He is our Master but yet our most dearest friend. I can’t answer it for you but i pray that you would take the time to search it out in your own lives.
May God renew your heart and change your lives forever.
In Christ Name,
